Entre sus piezas, interpretadas por reconocidos músicos como Celia Cruz, Benny Moré y Oscar de León, se encuentran “La sopa en botella”, “Reina rumba” y “Eres sensacional”

MADRID, España.- El 30 de julio de 1922 nació en el pueblo matancero Manguito el guitarrista Abdón Senén Suárez Hernández. Conocido como Senén Suárez, el también reconocido compositor y arreglista dejó a la música cubana más de un centenar de obras de géneros diferentes como la guaracha, el son, el bolero y la rumba.

Entre sus piezas, interpretadas por otros reconocidos músicos y agrupaciones como Celia Cruz, Benny Moré, Oscar de León, La Orquesta Aragón, Orishas y La Sonora Matancera, se encuentran “La sopa en botella”, “Reina rumba”, “Los pregones de San Cristóbal”, “La esquina del movimiento” y “Eres sensacional”.

Tras recibir sus primeras clases de tres cubano siendo aún adolescente, integró grupos de su provincia natal, como la Orquesta de Los Hermanos Valladares, con la que a veces colaboraba Dámaso Pérez Prado, el “Rey del Mambo”.

Muy joven se trasladó a La Habana, donde aprendió guitarra de manera autodidacta, mientras trabajaba como técnico dental, mandadero, vendedor de frutas, etc. para sobrevivir.

Luego tocó el tres con el trío Luisito Pla y sus guaracheros; después con el trío Caonabo y posteriormente formó el “Conjunto Colonial”.

A finales de los años 40 el maestro Ernesto Grenet le propuso integrarse a su conjunto, con el que actuaba en Tropicana. En el reconocido cabaret se mantuvo hasta 1958; aunque con una interrupción por una gira a Venezuela, durante la que conoció a Celia Cruz. Luego de la amistad surgida entre ellos, la guarachera de Cuba interpretó varias de sus canciones.

Entre 1958 y 1959 creó El Combo de Senén Suárez, al que introdujo la guitarra eléctrica y con el que se presentó en populares espacios de la capital y acompañó a artistas como La Lupe y Paulina Álvarez. En los años 60 se mantuvo actuando en el Salón Rojo del Capri y en el club La Red.

Senén Suárez murió en La Habana el 6 de octubre de 2013, a sus 91 años.
